My work has evolved over the years and has become increasingly abstract and geometric. My early paper mosaics where meant to mimic tile mosaics and my design considerations centered around giving these mosaics a contemporary feel while maintaining the traditional look of grout and tile mosaics. After several years, I began to experiment with paper mosaic quilts, combining the techniques of mosaic with contemporary quilt patterns. This body of work contains some of my favorite pieces, but since no artist stays still for long, my work then moved into exploring dimensional designs representing cityscapes - both funky and dramatic. The funky cityscapes came first and were an attempt to break out of my box - both figuratively and literally, as my work has always been very linear and geometric. The dramatic cityscapes were developed during the time I was struggling over the decision to return to school to complete my doctorate degree in education. Although all of the cityscapes were popular and sold quickly, once I returned to graduate studies I was uninspired to continue this work and began to explore patterned geometry and weaves. I have wondered if this external "laying down" of patterning and weaving represents the internal cognitive dissonance and learning that I am experiencing in graduate studies. Regardless, this new work is exciting to me and I look forward to seeing how it will lead to the next evolution of my art.
